Beavers Upend Woolly Mammoths, 5-4
UTICA, Mich. – Christian Helsel drove in the game-winning run, while TJ Ward went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (20-17) to a 5-4 victory over the Westside Woolly Mammoths (18-20) on Friday in another sell out at Jimmy John’s Field.
Left-handed pitcher Kevin Matthews struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings in a no decision for the Beavers. RHP Brian Heldman earned the win in relief, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings.
RHP Deshorn Lake threw 2.0 scoreless innings, not allowing a hit and struck out one for the save.
Jake Barbee led the Woolly Mammoths at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double. Alec Allred drove in a team-best two runs.
