Mammoths Win Over Hoppers, 7-11
UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (19-13) defeated the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (17-17), with a final score of 11-7, Thursday night at Jimmy John’s Field.
Eastside struck first when Colin Cornwell scored a passed ball, giving the Hoppers a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Colby Seltzer tied the game for the Mammoths in the third, hitting a solo home run to left field.
Ben Ferguson earned a run of his own in the fourth inning, after Zeb Roos hit a ball into center field.
The Mammoths came back with an offensive rally in the bottom of the fourth. Drew Fleming walked, loading the bases for Westside. Seltzer hit a double, earning himself his second and third RBI of the game, scoring Zachary Weaver and Anthony Sharkas. Hank Dodson also hit a double, which sent Seltzer and Fleming home and giving the Mammoths a 5-2 lead. Weaver extended Westside’s lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, his first hit of the season.
Seltzer continued his incredible day on the plate, hitting a grand slam for his second home run of the game, in the seventh. Westside put up five runs in the inning and extend their lead, 11-3.
Eastside attempted to rally, scoring 4 runs in the eighth, from Ferguson, Matt Goehrig, Todd Mattox, and Bailey Martin, but fell short.
