Beavers Hold Off Unicorns, 6-5

UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (12-19) defeated the Utica Unicorns (16-16) despite a valiant comeback effort by the Unicorns, with a final score of 6-5, Thursday night at Jimmy John’s Field.
Ben Wilcoxson and Blake Bean both scored runs, Wilcoxson from third on a ground out, and Bean on third from a fly out to give the Beavers the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The Unicorns added a run of their own in the bottom of the second. Ranko Stevanovic overthrow Vasili Kaloudis at third, allowing Ryan Enos to earn the run.
Chase Rodriguez continued his recent streak of hot batting, sending a bomb to right-center field for a 3-run home run, allowing Joe Burke and Christian Ortega to score in the third inning. Rodriguez also scored a run in the top of the second.
The Unicorns attempted a comeback in the late innings, with runs scored from Andre Demetral and Patrick Baggett in the eighth inning. Then, in the ninth, Kyle Schmack would hit an RBI double, earning Ethan Krizen a run. Sam Buduris hit an RBI single immediately after, scoring Schmack, and bringing the game to within one run.
The Beavers held off the Unicorns offense, and secured the victory.
