Westside Woolly Mammoths Blank Beavers Behind Dominant Pitching, 3-0
UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (19-12) used timely hitting and outstanding pitching to defeat the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (16-15), 3-0, Friday night at UWM Field. The Mammoths scored twice in the second inning before adding an insurance run in the fourth, while their pitching staff combined to allow just three hits and strike out 10 Beavers.
Westside broke the scoreless tie in the second inning when Kyle Revere delivered a two-out, two-run double to give the Mammoths an early 2-0 advantage. Revere struck again in the fourth, driving home another run with his second double of the game to account for all three Westside runs. He finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Dante Morton also recorded a two-hit night, including a double.
Birmingham’s offense struggled to find a rhythm against the Mammoths’ pitching staff. Tommy Barth, Amari Bartee and Jeffrey Reseigh each collected a hit, but the Beavers were limited to just three hits and struck out 10 times.
Starter Daniel Barcena earned the victory after tossing six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four. David Craig followed with a scoreless seventh, and Gavin Brasosky slammed the door with two perfect innings and four strikeouts to record the save.
Birmingham starter Jack Decker was charged with the loss despite working six innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out six.
The win improves the Mammoths behind another complete team effort, highlighted by shutdown pitching and Revere’s clutch performance at the plate.
