UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (8-18) defeated the Westside Woolly Mammoths (14-9) on a walk-off home run, with a final score of 10-7 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon for baseball at Jimmy John’s Field.

The Mammoths would strike first in the ballgame on a Colby Seltzer home run, his fifth of the season, giving his team the lead early in the first.

Westside’s lead wouldn’t make it out of the inning, however. Beavers Ben Wilcoxson stole third, and then earn a run after a defensive error by the Mammoths. Matt Piotrowski would follow with a two-run home run to earn his 12th and 13th RBIs of the season and giving Birmingham a 3-1.

Drew Fleming played his yard card for the Mammoths, launching a home run to bring the game within one run in the top of the second.

The Beavers offense would heat up again in the third inning. Piotrowski hit his second home run of the day, and fifth of the season, tying for the league lead with Westside’s Francis Florentino and Seltzer.

Both teams would put up a run in the fourth inning. Mammoth’s Fleming earned an RBI single, and Beavers Blake Bean hit the fifth home run of the game and his first of the season, bringing the score to 5-3, and giving Birmingham a two-run lead at the end of the inning.

Fox Leum and Nick Pastore earned RBIs, as the Mammoths would scored three runs on two hits to tie the game 6-6 in the seventh inning, but Chase Rodriguez would quickly regain the lead for the Beavers with a solo home run.

The Mammoths once again tied the back-and-forth contest in the top of the ninth, with Jose Cedeno scoring. In the bottom of the ninth, Rodriguez walked off the game with a two-run home run. Rodriguez hit 3-for-5 on the day, two home runs, and four RBIs.
