Mammoths Win Over Beavers, 4-2
UTICA, Mich. – Greg Loukinen would enter the game leading the USPBL in strikeouts, and looking to secure his second win of the season, but that would not be the case, as the Westside Woolly Mammoths (2-2) would defeat the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (1-3) 4-2 in front of a packed crowd on Friday night at Jimmy John’s Field.
After having struggled to find hits in their last game out, Ben Wilcoxson would secure a hit as the first batter in their lineup.
Beavers Christian Ortega would open the second inning with a 356-foot home run to left field off of the first pitch of the inning to give the Beavers an early 1-0 lead.
Westside would find their offense in the middle innings off an Anthony Sharkas triple to center field in the fourth. Dre Williams-Nelson would hit a ground ball to first, being called out but bringing Sharkas home for an RBI groundout and tying the game 1-1.
Colby Seltzer would single to center field to begin the bottom of the 5th, followed by a Nick Pastore base hit, and then a Sharkas double resulting in his 4th and 5th RBI on the season, bringing the score to 3-1.
Bramdon Perez recorded a RBI double in the 8th to attempt a comeback, making the score 2-3, before an Alex Garbacik RBI double would secure the Mammoths victory.
Anthony Sharkas would hit 2-4 with a double and triple, and record 2 RBI in an impressive hitting performance, taking home player of the game.
