Beavers Use Long Ball to Defeat Mammoths, 9-3

UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (7-5) powered their way to a 9-3 victory over the Westside Woolly Mammoths (9-3) on Friday night at UWM Field, using a pair of home runs and timely hitting to secure the win. 

The Mammoths struck first in the opening inning when Jordan Viars drove in a run, giving Westside an early 1-0 lead. The Mammoths added two more runs in the third inning behind Viars’ RBI triple and a sacrifice fly from Dalton Pearson to take a 3-0 advantage. 

The Beavers answered immediately, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game before taking control with a three-run fifth inning. Birmingham Bloomfield put the game away in the eighth, adding three more runs highlighted by home runs from Kaehukai Young and Amari Bartee

Young led the Beavers’ offense, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Bartee matched him with a two-hit performance that included a three-run homer and three RBIs. David Coppedge also reached base three times and scored three runs. 

For the Mammoths, Viars accounted for two RBIs and recorded the club’s lone extra-base hit with a triple. Caleb Marmo, Dante Morton, Viars, and Brady Krzciok collected Westside’s four hits on the night. 

On the mound, Beavers reliever Jack Decker earned the victory after tossing 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four. The Mammoths bullpen combined for six strikeouts, including strong scoreless outings from Kerry Collins and Gavin Brasosky
