UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (6-4) and the Westside Woolly Mammoths (3-7) traded tight, low-scoring wins on Saturday in a doubleheader at Jimmy John’s Field, each team walking away with a one-run victory.

Game 1: Mammoths 1, Beavers 1 (Mammoths Sudden Victory Win)

In the opener, both teams posted a single run, with the game ending in a tie, sending it to sudden victory. The Mammoths struck early, plating a run in the first inning on a bases-loaded double play that allowed Adam Haidermota to score. The Beavers responded in the fifth when Ray Hilbrich singled and later came home on a sacrifice fly by Bubba Thompson.

Despite putting runners on base in nearly every inning, the Beavers couldn’t capitalize, stranding nine. Both bullpens were sharp, with Julian Pichardo tossing two hitless innings of relief for the Beavers.

The Beavers chose to hit in sudden victory, but the Mammoths got three outs before the Beavers could score, giving them the win.

Game 2: Beavers 2, Mammoths 1 (Beavers Sudden Victory Win)

Dante Morton’s solo homer in the sixth accounted for the only Mammoths run, breaking up a shutout bid by the Beavers bullpen. Logan McCleery, Spencer Smith, Kyle Fitzgerald, and Noah Miller combined to allow just two hits over seven innings.
