Late Surge Lifts Mammoths Past Beavers in Sunday Matinee
July 27th, 2025
UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (13-17) used a four-run eighth inning to rally past the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (10-18), earning a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Jimmy John’s Field.
The Mammoths (13-17) opened the scoring with a solo home run from shortstop Sebastian Trinidad in the first inning, but the game remained tight until late. The Beavers (10-18) tied it up in the third on a Nate Mensik solo homer, and again in the fifth when an error led to an unearned run and a 2-1 lead.
But it was the eighth inning where the Mammoths struck. After loading the bases, Dante Morton delivered a two-run single, and Ryne Guida followed with a clutch two-RBI base hit to make it 5-2. The Beavers responded with a run in the bottom of the ninth on a Ryan Maka RBI double, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
Conor Gausselin earned the win in relief, tossing a scoreless seventh, while Kyle Pijaszek picked up his second save of the year by closing out the ninth.
