Unicorns Take Game Two, 4-2, Downing Beavers
UTICA, Mich. – The second game of the Saturday doubleheader between the Utica Unicorns and the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers would be a low-scoring, defensive affair, with the Unicorns earning their second win of the day, defeating the Beavers, 4-2, at Jimmy John’s Field.
Ray Hilbrich started the offense for the Beavers early on a double, and then stole third, which would set up Matt Piotrowski for an RBI sac fly sending Hilbricht home, as well as giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead at the end of the first.
Piotrowski earned his second RBI of the contest in the bottom of the fifth after launching a home run 341-feet into center field.
The Unicorns would finally find offense in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with no outs. Austin Ochoa would be hit by the pitch, moving him to first and earning a run for Joe Smith. Andre Demetral and Patrick Baggett also earn runs, off of a walk and a wild pitch to give Utica their first lead of the ballgame.
Utica would add an insurance run in the ninth from a Baggett RBI double, growing the lead to 4-2.
