Unicorns Pick Up Win Over Beavers, 14-7
UTICA, Mich. – The Utica Unicorns (12-8) would earn 14 runs on 17 hits in an impressive 14-7 win over the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (3-15), on a great Friday night in front of a sold out crowd at Jimmy John’s Field.
The first inning would be full of offense for both squads, with the Unicorn’s Patrick Baggett starting with an early double to put runners into scoring position before Jared Weber would send them both home with a two RBI home run. Utica’s lead would be short-lived, however.
Birmingham’s Joe Burke hit his first home run of the season, a 385-foot bomb to left field, scoring three and giving the Beavers the lead.
Utica would score five runs in the third inning to regain the lead, with Sam Buduris and Tyler Shinn both earning two RBI. Cam Farrar also picked up an RBI. The Unicorns would continue to bring on the scoring, earning three runs in the fourth, two runs in the sixth, and two more runs in the seventh; including a Kyle Schmack home run in the top of the eighth to help give the Unicorns a 14-6 lead.
The Beaver’s Pablo Ruiz would pick up his first home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth.
Weber had a great day on the plate, earning his third home run of the year, five RBI, and three hits, while also scoring two runs.
