Mammoths Walk-off Unicorns, 1-0
UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (8-5) won in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Drew Fleming hit a pitch-hit home run over the Utica Unicorns (9-7), to give them the 1-0 victory on a warm night at Jimmy John’s Field.
It was a defensive battle all night, with both teams making SportsCenter’s Top 10 worthy plays to keep the score even at zero.
For the Unicorns, Garrett Bonnett started on the mound, pitching 3.0 inning and striking out three. Jace Baumann pitched the fourth inning, striking out two of the four batters he faced. The top of the lineup had most of the hits for Utica.
The Mammoths put RHP Nate Blain on the mound to start the game. Blain struck out six and allowed two walks in 5.0 innings of work. Jose Cedeno went 2-for-2, with Nick Webre and Dre Williams-Nelson having the other two hits before Fleming hit his second home run of the season.
