Hoppers Take Down Unicorns, 7-1
UTICA, Mich. – The Eastside Diamond Hoppers (7-3) would come into a Friday night game against the Utica Unicorns (6-4), looking to recoup for the 12-2 rout at the hands of the Westside Woolly Mammoths yesterday, and that is exactly what they would do, securing the 7-1 win in front of a sold-out crowd at Jimmy John’s Field.
Noah Marcoux started the top of the first inning with a two-run home run to center field for his second home run in two days, giving the Hoppers the lead early. In his second at-bat, Marcoux would proceed to hit a ground-rule double, and after a Unicorn’s error, would reach home plate to extend the score to 3-0 for the Hoppers.
The Hoppers’ scoring continued in the fifth, loading the bases before back-to-back RBI hits for Zeb Roos and Bryant Shellenbarger extended the lead 5-0. In the seventh, Roos hit a two-run home, his first of the season.
The Unicorn’s first score would come late after Dee Triplett was walked into loaded bases, bringing Patrick Baggett home.
