Mammoths Stay Hot, Beat Hoppers, 12-1
UTICA, Mich. – Ethan Wiskur smashed a three-run home run and doubled to drive in four runs and right-handed pitcher Matt Cronin (1-0) tossed 6.1 strong innings, allowing one run and struck out four to lead the Westside Woolly Mammoths (13-13) over the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (11-16), 12-1, on Saturday night in front of a large crowd at Jimmy John’s Field.
Wiskur finished 2-for-4, with a double, home run and diving catch in right field. USPBL batting leader Sonny Cortez doubled for the Mammoths and Jake Pulcheon drove in two runs. Brandt Broussard made his debut tonight, going 2-for-5 with one RBI.
Thomas LaCongo led the Diamond Hoppers with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Pat Adams went 1-for-4 to extend his streak to 29 games reaching base safely. Adams is second in the league in batting average.
The Woolly Mammoths, 9-2 over their last 11 games, will take on the Utica Unicorns (14-12) on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Cat Hero will be at the ballpark, courtesy of Fairytale Entertainment, and Kids Crafts will be available.
