Contreras One-Hits First-Place Unicorns in 12-0 Win

UTICA, Mich. – Right-handed pitcher and United Shore Professional Baseball League strikeout leader Luis Contreras (2-1) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and allowed one hit over 7.0 scoreless innings and struck out 11 as the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (3-3) ended the Utica Unicorns (6-2) five-game winning streak in dominating fashion, 12-0, on Saturday at Jimmy John’s Field.
Centerfielder Pat Adams homered to start the game with a 410 foot blast to left-center field off the netting of the scoreboard and finished 2-for-3, with four runs scored, two RBIs and two walks. Third baseman Wesley Jones went 3-for-4, with three runs scored and drove in a run, and local product Freddy Jehle finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. The Diamond Hoppers had a season-best 12 runs on 14 hits in the game.
RHP Spencer Stockton had yet to give up a run this season over 12.0 innings, but struggled with his command tonight. He took the loss, allowing six earned runs over 4.0 innings and 10 hits. Colie Currie and Collin Ridout had the only hits for the Unicorns.
The Diamond Hoppers will be in action once again on Sunday as they take on the Westside Woolly Mammoths (2-4) for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch. Gates will open at Noon for the annual Bark in the Park, presented by Happy Tails and Learning Center for Dogs. For tickets and information, please click here.
