
Beavers Open Season With 8–2 Win Over Unicorns

Utica, Mich. – The USPBL season opened with fireworks Friday night at Jimmy John’s Field, as the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers powered their way to an 8–2 victory over the Utica Unicorns, fueled by a six-run second inning and strong performances on the mound.
Dyson Johnson earned the win for the Beavers (1–0), striking out six over four innings while allowing just two runs on two hits. Relievers Sidney Ferry and Dominic Hann shut the door with three scoreless innings of relief.
Offensively, the Beavers wasted no time setting the tone. In the bottom of the second, they exploded for six runs on five hits and three walks. Ranko Stevanovic, Tyler Shinn, and Bubba Thompson each delivered RBI hits, while Ben Wilcoxson added an RBI double.
Shinn and Stevanovic led the way with two hits and an RBI apiece, while Thompson and Wilcoxson each knocked in a run as well. In total, the Beavers tallied eight hits and drew nine walks.
On the mound for the Unicorns (0–1), starter Frankie Gulko took the loss, charged with six earned runs in 1.2 innings. Austin Ochoa and Ethan Krizen drove in the Unicorns’ only runs in the second and third innings, but the offense was limited to just three hits on the night.
The Unicorns’ defense remained flawless, committing no errors, while stranding 12 Beavers baserunners.
