Beavers Earn No. 1 seed with 6-4 Win over Hoppers

UTICA, Mich. – Nicholas Campana drove in three runs and left-handed pitcher Kevin Matthews tossed 5.0 strong innings, striking out eight, as the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (25-21) defeated the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (23-23), 6-4, in front of an electric crowd at Jimmy John’s Field on Friday. The win secures the No. 1 seed for the Beavers and a spot in the USPBL Championship Game on Sunday, Sept. 9.
The Diamond Hoppers’ Sebastian Diaz led all offensive players, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. The Beavers’ Brian Heldman earned his fourth save of the season with a scoreless 1.2 innings.
Jack Hranec finished 2-for-4 at the plate for the Beavers. Kody Ruedisili and Cameron Coons were each 2-for-4 with a double for the Hoppers.
