Ray Ortega

Assistant Director of Baseball Operations

Ray Ortega, 35, from Miami, FL, has an extensive background in baseball, both as a player and a coach. He joins the USPBL after spending 2024 as the Assistant Manager of the Savannah Bananas during their tour across the country. He plans to bring the fun and entertainment back into the game of baseball, while keeping the integrity of the game itself. 

Before joining the Savannah Bananas, he was with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League, where he served as the Hitting Coach for two summers and the team’s Bench Coach. Prior to that, he was the Player Development Coach for the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, leading them to a AAA National Championship in 2019 and the first three-peat in Minor League history. Ortega transitioned from player to coach in the United Shore Professional Baseball League in 2018, eventually becoming the league’s Catching Director and Scouting Advisor. Over the years, he has personally coached more than 200 players who have played Major League Baseball.

Ortega will have a key role in player development and community outreach, while also guiding our players through the transition to Real Baseball. Real Fun., ensuring that the league continues to push boundaries and grow its impact. His appointment marks an important step in USPBL’s commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
