UTICA, Mich – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (14-8) defeated the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (7-18), 2-1, in a close game in front of a loudly crowd at Jimmy John’s Field on Friday night.
It was a pitchers duel as RHP Nate Blain picked up his third win as a Mammoth, tossing 7.0 innings, allowing only two hits and no runs, walking two while striking out four. Left-handed pitcher Greg Loukinen started on the mound for the Beavers. Loukinen threw 6.0 innings, scattering four hits and also striking out four.
For the Mammoths, the middle of the lineup provided the most offense. Nick Pastore, Colby Seltzer, Hank Dodson all had hits. Third baseman, Cordell Dunn Jr., hit his first USPBL home run, giving Westside the lead.
Offensively for the Beavers, Ray Hilbrich went 2-for-4 with one RBI, scoring Blake Bean, who walked earlier in the inning. The Beavers attempted the comeback in the bottom of the ninth, but fell short.
