Mammoths Come In Clutch Over Unicorns, 5-2

UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (15-9) defeated the Utica Unicorns (15-14) with a final score of 5-2, on a perfect Thursday night for baseball at Jimmy John’s Field.
Westside began the top of the second with Fox Leum hitting a double. The Mammoths would soon find themselves with the bases loaded, and after a bad throw to first by Logan Lee, the Unicorns defense would allow two runs to score, giving Westside a 2-0 lead.
The Unicorns brought offense of their own in the second, starting with a double by Jose Aquino, followed by a Kyle Schmack RBI double to give the them their first run of the ballgame. The Unicorns would pick up a run and tie the game in the sixth off the bat of Jared Weber, hitting an RBI double.
Hank Dodson came up clutch in the top of the 8th for the Mammoths, hitting a single to center field with the bases loaded, scoring two runs and giving the Mammoths a two run lead. Jake Walker also singled, extending the lead to 5-2. Leum would have an impressive outing, hitting 2-for-3, with a double, an earned run, and two walks.
