Mammoths Blank Unicorns, 5-0
May 19th, 2024
UTICA, Mich. – In a rematch of Friday’s game, the Utica Unicorns (1-1) would enter looking to secure their second win, but their offensive struggles would continue as the Westside Woolly Mammoths (1-1) would take the victory 5-0, off of an extremely impressive game from their bullpen.
Trey Jones would tally 7 strikeouts in his 5.0 pitched innings, and retired 13 batters before allowing his first baserunner in the eighth. The Mammoths only allowed three hits on the day, while also tallying nine of their own.
Anthony Sharkas would hit an RBI ground out to put the first run on the board for the Mammoths. The bats would get hot for the Mammoths in the fifth inning, and would continue into the sixth, with back to back doubles from Fox Leum and Francis Florentino directly after. Florentino’s double would be the third extra base hit for the Mammoths through two games. Leum would make it home before the end of the inning, extending the lead to two runs.
Dee Triplett would record a walk on his first plate appearance, which would be his fourth walk in his first six at bats on the season.
In the bottom of the third, the Mammoths would find themselves with loaded bases, but the Unicorns would defend very well to escape a tough situation off of a perfectly timed double play.
Zach Beadle hit a double in the sixth, which would be the third double of the game for the Mammoths. Beadle was 2-for-4 on the day. Jose Cedeno had an RBI double as well, which would be his first hit of the season. Sharkas brought in a 2 RBI single for his third RBI of the game.
