May 18th, 2024
UTICA, Mich. – Pierce Banks would secure his first pitching win of the season, tallying 2 strikeouts as the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (1-1) would take the second game against the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (1-1), with a final score of 3-1 on a Saturday doubleheader at Jimmy John’s Field.
The second game of the day would start with immediate action, as Matt Goehrig would open the first inning of the game with a two-run home run, which would not only be his first home run of the season, but the first home run across all of the USPBL this year. Goehrig also had a single, and 2 RBIs, with the home run being his first professional hit.
The Beavers would score their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth off of Max McLennan’s bat, who would go 2-for-2 with an RBI. McLennan had two-thirds of the Beavers hits.
“It felt great,” Gehrig said about the experience in his first professional start, “Putting the jersey on with them, there’s no better feeling.”
The Hoppers out hit the Beavers 7-4 on the day.
