August 27th, 2026
UTICA, Mich. – The Eastside Diamond Hoppers (13-29) erased an early five-run deficit and completed a dramatic comeback Thursday night at UWM Field, defeating the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (21020), 5-5, in sudden victory.
Birmingham struck first with a huge second inning, plating five runs to jump out to a 5-0 lead. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from Amari Bartee, while Skye Selinsky, Matt Piotrowski and Alec Gonzalez also drove in runs for the Beavers.
Eastside began chipping away in the sixth before making its biggest push in the eighth. The Diamond Hoppers scored three runs in the frame, then tied the game with another run in the ninth to force extras. David Kedrow finished with two RBI, while Jordan Malott and Eli Watson each drove in a run for Eastside.
The comeback was made possible by a tremendous effort from the Diamond Hoppers bullpen. After starter Jacob Mead allowed five runs over the first two innings, Dante Zamudio completely shut down Birmingham, tossing six hitless innings without allowing a run or a walk while striking out five. Walker then worked two scoreless innings and earned the win.
Eastside pushed across the deciding run in the 10th to complete the 6-5 comeback victory. Jack Hoeymans was charged with the loss for Birmingham after allowing the final run, while the Beavers finished with eight hits compared to just three for the Diamond Hoppers.
