Mammoths Blank Hoppers, 4-0
UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Wooly Mammoths (9-7) had great pitching and Fox Leum homered to shut out the USPBL’s best hitting team, the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (12-6), ending its three game winning streak in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Jimmy John’s Field.
The first game of the Saturday doubleheader would feature two talented pitchers, Eastside’s Pierce Banks and Westside’s Trey Cruz. The two battled it out on the mound, with the first earned runs not coming until the fourth inning.
Westside put the first runs on the board, earning two off base hits from Leum and Malek Bolin to give the Mammoth’s a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Leum would earn two more runs for Westside after launching a 366-foot home run to left field in the top of the sixth inning. Leum would have a perfect day at the plate, going 2-2 with a home run, 3 RBI, a walk, and a run scored.
The Diamond Hoppers were unable to earn any runs, and only had two hits on the ballgame.
