Diamond Hoppers Use Six-Run 9th Inning to Down Beavers, 8-7
June 2nd, 2019
UTICA, Mich. – Freddy Jehle scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to complete a six-run inning and lead the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (6-4) to an 8-7 come-from-behind victory over the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (3-6) on Sunday at Jimmy John’s Field. Jehle, a native of Troy, Mich., came in to pinch run in the final inning.
Right-handed pitcher Tyler Tomaka (1-0) earned the win in relief, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out two. Outfielder Pat Adams went 2-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and run scored to lead the Diamond Hoppers. Fellow outfielder Ryan MacCarrick made a nice diving catch in center field and drove in two runs for the Hoppers.
Left-handed pitcher Gerry Salisbury (0-2) had a no decision, throwing 6.0 strong innings, scattering five hits, two runs and struck out four. Catcher Adam Gauthier increased his league-lead in RBIs with two today, finishing with a double in three at bats.
After a three-run eighth inning, the Beavers held a commanding 7-2 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. The Diamond Hoppers took advantage of a couple misplays by the Beavers and some timely walks, pushing six runs across on just one hit to pull off the walk-off win.
