Unicorns Explode for 10 Runs in Win Over Beavers

UTICA, Mich. – The Utica Unicorns (1-0) broke things open with a massive third inning and cruised to a 10-1 victory over the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (0-1) on Saturday night in game one at UWM Field.
After taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Unicorns erupted for nine runs in the third to put the game out of reach. Utica finished the night with 12 hits, including three home runs.
Rafael Jackson III led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Zayd Brannigan also homered and added two hits and an RBI, while Alex Harrell had a huge night at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a homer and two runs scored. Tyler Warr chipped in with a two-run hit, and the Unicorns lineup continued to apply pressure throughout the night.
On the mound, Coley Kilpatrick was dominant for Utica, tossing four hitless innings while striking out one to earn the win. The Unicorns pitching staff combined to allow just one hit all game.
The Beavers’ lone run came in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Alec Gonzalez.
