June 27th, 2026
UTICA, Mich. – The Utica Unicorns (9-10) bounced back in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader, using a balanced offensive attack and strong pitching to defeat the Westside Woolly Mammoths (1205), 7-1, at UWM Field. Utica scored seven runs on seven hits while limiting the Mammoths to just three hits to earn the split.
The Unicorns wasted little time taking control, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning. They added three more runs in the fourth and tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth to pull away. Zayd Brannigan led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, including a double and two RBIs, while Tyler Warr launched a solo home run and drove in two runs. Alex Harrell added an RBI double, and Rafael Jackson III and Cecil Lofton each contributed an RBI in the victory.
Westside’s lone run came in the fourth inning when Tommy Stevenson connected on a solo home run, his third of the season. Corbin Shaw accounted for the Mammoths’ only extra-base hit with a double, but Utica’s pitching staff kept Westside off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Trevor Sharp earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out four over four innings. Garrett Harker closed the door with two scoreless innings of relief, striking out two to record the save.
With the victory, the Unicorns salvaged a split of the Saturday doubleheader after Westside claimed the opener earlier in the evening.
