Unicorns Advance to Semifinals with 9-8 Win over Beavers

UTICA, Mich. – The Utica Unicorns (17-26, 1-0) Unicorns scored three runs on the top of the ninth inning, coming back from being down two runs to beat the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (21-23, 0-1) in the quarterfinals of the USPBL powered by UWM playoffs on Thursday in front of a lively crowd at Jimmy John’s Field.

Josh Baker drove in two runs for the Unicorns, finishing 1-for-4. RHP Ben Krizen tossed 2.0 innings, striking out four, and Lucas Goodin went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one double. The Unicorns had eight players with at least one hit and seven that scored a run.

Ray Hilbrich had two hits for the Beavers. Ben Wilcoxson had one run, one hit and one RBI. Starting pitcher Greg Loukinen pitched 6.0 innings, striking out 12 batters, scattering eight hits and allowing only two runs.

The Unicorns advance to the semifinals of the USPBL playoffs and will take on the No. 2 seed Eastside Diamond Hoppers (23-21) on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.
