ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Utica Unicorns are off to the league’s best start at 11-3 to highlight This Week in the United Shore Professional Baseball League. The weekly show recaps the following week’s games and touches on upcoming promotions.
Jimmy Latona heated up for the Unicorns with a pair of home runs and right-handed pitcher Spencer Stockton improved to 3-1 on the season with another strong performance against the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers.
The Beavers’ Ross Haffey has homered in each of his last three games and leads the league with an impressive .941 slugging percentage. Haffey, a native of Birmingham, Mich., was named USPBL Player of the Week on Monday after batting .364 with those three home runs and six RBIs.
Noah Gotsis has been impressive for the Diamond Hoppers. The 6-foot right-hander from Phoenix, Ariz., leads the USPBL with a 1.42 ERA and is a perfect 2-0 on the season. Gotsis is striking out just under nine batters per game.
