Justin Orenduff Named Executive Director of Baseball Strategy & Development

July 29th, 2025

ROCHESTER, Mich. – July 29, 2025 – The United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL powered by UWM) is proud to announce that Justin Orenduff has been appointed as the league’s Executive Director of Baseball Strategy & Development. Orenduff previously served as the USPBL’s Director of Baseball Operations from 2017 to 2021 before moving to Virginia in late 2021 when his wife joined the faculty of the VCU School of Dentistry.

Orenduff is widely recognized in the baseball and business communities as the founder of DVS Baseball and the creator of the Delivery Value System (DVS) Scoring System, an innovative model designed to evaluate pitching mechanics and identify movements that may lead to injury. Developed over a five-year period, the DVS Scoring System was the product of Orenduff’s professional pitching career, in-depth research into throwing patterns, and extensive testing and validation. His work has helped pitchers across all levels develop safer, more effective deliveries while advancing overall player performance.

In addition to his on-field impact, Orenduff was named to Crain’s Detroit Business “40 Under 40”, recognized for transforming his professional baseball experience into a career devoted to developing athletes and creating new pathways to the pros. Among his proudest accomplishments is the success of Randy Dobnak, the first USPBL player to reach Major League Baseball when he debuted for the Minnesota Twins in 2019, and current Detroit Tiger, exemplifying the league’s mission to develop overlooked talent for the next level.

In his new role, Orenduff will leverage his relationships with Major League Baseball organizations to increase player signings from the USPBL, further solidifying the league as a premier development platform. He will also create alumni engagement initiatives and oversee the soon-to-be-announced USPBL All-Decade Team, honoring the league’s history and celebrating the success of its players.

“We are thrilled to have Justin lead our baseball strategy and development efforts,” said Andy Appleby, Owner of the USPBL. “His expertise in pitching mechanics, player development, and strong connections with MLB organizations will elevate our league and expand opportunities for our athletes to achieve their professional dreams.”

Orenduff’s background as both a professional player and innovator gives him a unique perspective on player development. He was a two-time All-American pitcher at George Washington University and Virginia Commonwealth University, and a member of the 2003 USA Collegiate National Team alongside future MLB stars Justin Verlander and Jered Weaver. In 2004, he was selected 33rd overall in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, pitching as high as the Triple-A level before a career-ending shoulder injury inspired him to dedicate his career to preventing similar injuries in others.

After completing his B.S. in Business Management at VCU, Orenduff launched DVS Baseball and joined the USPBL, where he served as Director of Baseball Operations from 2017 to 2021. His leadership will now focus on expanding the league’s influence in player development, alumni programs, and long-term growth initiatives.

Justin currently resides in Virginia with his wife, Shahrzad, and their two sons.
