Mammoths Jump Out Early, Defeat Hoppers 7-2
UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (25-20) used a five-run first inning and a strong performance from their pitching staff to defeat the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (14-31), 7-2, Saturday night at UWM Field. Westside finished the night with eight hits while holding Eastside to four.
The Mammoths wasted no time getting their offense going, pushing five runs across in the top of the first inning. The Hoppers answered with a run in the bottom half before adding another in the third to cut the deficit to 5-2. Westside responded with insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings to extend its advantage to 7-2.
Westside’s offense was led by Caleb Marmo, who went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs. Dalton Pearson added a pair of hits, two runs scored and an RBI, while also stealing two bases. Elimoar Otero went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Brady Krzciok and Kyle Revere each drove in a run.
Eastside’s offense was paced by Myles Beale, who went 2-for-4 with a double and scored both of the Hoppers’ runs. David Kedrow and Jordan Malott accounted for Eastside’s other two hits, while Kevon Jackson drove in the Hoppers’ lone RBI with a sacrifice fly.
On the mound, Ray Euson earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits over four innings. The Mammoths’ bullpen was nearly untouchable from there, as Walker Pedante and Christian Carew combined for four hitless and scoreless innings while striking out four. Eastside starter Nicholas Soller, allowing five runs on four hits over three innings.
The Mammoths’ pitching staff retired the Hoppers without allowing a hit over the final four innings, securing the 7-2 victory in the final regular-season Saturday night at UWM Field.
