Hoppers Pick Up First Win Over Mammoths, 14-5
UTICA, Mich. – The Eastside Diamond Hoppers (1-8) used a balanced offensive attack and timely power hitting to defeat the Westside Woolly Mammoths (7-2), 14-5, on Thursday night at UWM Field.
The Mammoths struck first with a run in the opening inning, but the Hoppers responded immediately with three runs in the bottom half and never looked back. The Hoppers added runs in six different innings, including a four-run eighth inning that put the game out of reach.
Offensively, the Hoppers were led by center fielder Kevon Jackson, who scored four runs, collected two hits, and blasted a home run while driving in two runs. David Kedrow also had a big night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Bailey Martin added two hits and drove in a game-high four runs, while Chase Maifield capped the scoring with a two-run homer.
The Mammoths collected 12 hits in the loss. Caleb Marmo, Tommy Stevenson, Kyle Revere, and Brendan Hillis each recorded multi-hit performances. Stevenson, Hillis, Dante Morton, and Dalton Pearson all drove in runs for the Mammoths.
On the mound, Deion Walker earned the win for the Hoppers after allowing three runs on eight hits over six innings while striking out three. The Hoppers bullpen combined to finish the final three innings and secure the victory.
