UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths used a late offensive surge and lights-out pitching to shut out the Utica Unicorns 7-0 on Thursday night at Jimmy John’s Field.

Mammoths starter Cam Vieaux set the tone, tossing six scoreless innings while striking out nine and allowing just four hits. Reliever Brandon Scott finished the job, working the final three innings with four strikeouts to complete the combined shutout.

The game was scoreless through five innings before the Mammoths broke through in the sixth. Timo Aracena provided the big swing, blasting a three-run homer to left to give Westside a 4-0 lead. Aracena finished the night with two hits and four RBIs.

The Mammoths tacked on three more runs in the ninth, highlighted by RBI hits from Sebastian Trinidad and Anthony Sharkas, putting the game out of reach. Sharkas led the way with three hits, including a double, and also swiped a base.

The Unicorns collected six hits but couldn’t solve Vieaux and Scott, striking out 13 times on the night. Chris Schoeller and Carlos Negron each doubled to provide the biggest sparks for Utica’s offense.
