UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (13-10) completed a Saturday doubleheader sweep of the Westside Woolly Mammoths (15-10), holding on for a 4-3 victory in Game two at UWM Field.
The Beavers struck first in the opening inning and never trailed, adding single runs in the third and fourth before extending its lead to 4-1. Tommy Barth, Amari Bartee, Derek Gellos, and Matt Piotrowski each drove in a run, while Bartee finished with two hits, including an RBI double, and Rodriguez added a triple to pace the Beavers’ five-hit attack.
The Mammoths battled back in the fifth despite recording just one hit all game. A pair of walks, a hit batter, and RBI from Dalton Pearson, Matt McGann, and Chase Jans cut the deficit to one and brought the tying run to base. Birmingham reliever Ben Crumpton settled things down, tossing the final 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out two to earn the save.
Jesus Munguia earned the win after allowing one hit and one run over four innings. JD Smith bridged the gap before Crumpton closed out the victory. Gavin Brasosky took the loss for Westside after allowing one unearned run over two innings in relief.
Westside managed just one hit—a first-inning double by Caleb Marmo—but capitalized on nine walks to keep the game close. Birmingham made the most of its opportunities, using timely hitting and solid pitching to secure the 4-3 win and sweep the doubleheader.
