Givens Powers Unicorns Past Woolly Mammoths in 4-4 Sudden Victory Thriller

UTICA, Mich. – The Utica Unicorns (26-17) and Westside Woolly Mammoths (24-18) battled to a 4-4 tie through eight innings Friday night at UWM Field before the Unicorns earned the victory in sudden victory action.
Westside struck first in the bottom of the opening inning. After Jordan Viars reached, Dalton Pearson connected for a two-run home run to give the Woolly Mammoths an early 2-1 advantage. Matt McGann added a solo homer in the second as Westside built a 3-2 lead.
The Unicorns kept answering, with Jason Givens providing much of the offense. He launched a solo home run in the second inning before Ryan Enos tied the game at 3-3 with his seventh home run of the season in the fifth. Westside briefly regained the lead in the bottom half, but Givens struck again in the sixth, blasting his second solo homer of the night to even the score at 4-4. Givens finished 2-for-3 with two home runs, two RBI and two runs scored.
Neither side could break through from there. Trevor Sharp delivered 1.1 scoreless innings out of the Utica bullpen before Garrett Harker took over and allowed just one hit across 1.2 scoreless frames. Harker was credited with the win, while Gavin Brasosky took the loss for Westside.
The Unicorns finished with six hits, including three home runs, while the Woolly Mammoths collected seven hits. With the score still deadlocked at 4-4 after eight innings, Utica ultimately came away with the sudden victory win to close out a back-and-forth night at UWM Field.
