
Mammoths Unable To Overcome Hoppers’s Late-Game Surge

UTICA, Mich. – The Eastside Diamond Hoppers snatched the lead late in their 2-1 victory over the Westside Woolly Mammoths on Wednesday. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the eighth when Andrew Bergeron singled, scoring one run.
Both teams were strong on the bump. Hoppers pitchers struck out 12, while Mammoths sat down 12.
Mammoths opened the scoring in the fifth after Hank Dodosn grounded out, scoring one run.
Hoppers took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning after Mammoths committed an error, and Bergeron singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.
Dylan McCall led things off on the bump for Hoppers. The righty surrendered one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking seven. Dillon Chapa led things off on the hill for Mammoths. The starter gave up zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one. Jaylen Smith, Angelo Agro, Austin Baugh, and Deion Walker each threw scoreless innings for Hoppers in relief.
Bergeron led Hoppers with one run batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-4 on the day.
Dodosn led Mammoths with one run batted in. Anthony Sharkas led Mammoths with two hits in four at bats. Timo ArAcena led Mammoths with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Sharkas stole two bases. Mammoths stole four bases in the game.
