
Pablo Ruiz With Three Hits As Beavers Beat Unicorns

UTICA, Mich. – Pablo Ruiz collected three hits in five at bats, as the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers defeated the Utica Unicorns 9-1 on Thursday. Ruiz hit a home run to left field in the fifth inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the ninth inning.
Beavers scored six runs in the ninth inning on the way to victory. Ryan Maka singled, scoring one run, Xander Willis singled, scoring two runs, Nate Mensik doubled, scoring two runs, and Ben Wilcoxson singled, scoring one run.
A sacrifice fly by Joe Muzio put Unicorns on the board in the bottom of the first.
Ruiz singled to center field, which helped Beavers tie the game at one in the top of the third.
Beavers took the lead in the top of the fifth. Ruiz homered to left field, scoring two runs, to give Beavers the lead, 3-1.
Jake Armstrong earned the win for Beavers. The hurler allowed four hits and one run over five innings, striking out three and walking two. Nick Cosentino took the loss for Unicorns. The starter went five innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out three and walking three. Noah Miller, Sidney Ferry, and Dominic Hann each came on in relief for Beavers and shutdown Unicorns.
Beavers piled up 11 hits in the game. Wilcoxson and Raul Guillermo each collected multiple hits for Beavers. Beavers had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Maka and Chase Rodriguez led the team with two walks each.
Alex Harrell and Thomas Collins each collected two hits for Unicorns. Muzio led Unicorns with one run batted in. Unicorns turned one double play in the game.
