Late Score Costs Hoppers After Late Charge From Mammoths

UTICA, Mich. – Friday’s game against the Westside Woolly Mammoths Mammoths was a heartbreaker for the Eastside Diamond Hoppers, as they lost the lead late in a 6-4 defeat. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the eighth when an error scored two runs.

Hoppers lost despite out-hitting Mammoths 10 to seven. Myles Beale led Hoppers with three hits.

A walk by Timo ArAcena put Mammoths on the board in the bottom of the second.

Mammoths scored three runs in the bottom of the third on a home run to left field by Hank Dodosn on an 0-2 count.

Hoppers tied the game in the top of the seventh thanks to a single by Gio Ferraro, a single by Chase Maifield, and a double by Wyatt Grant.

Pierce Banks pitched four innings in relief for Hoppers. The pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs while, striking out four and walking three. Harry Orth stepped on the bump first for Hoppers. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and four runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking four. Guillermo Garcia Jr stepped on the hill first for Mammoths. The hurler surrendered four hits and one run over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking three.

Hoppers collected 10 hits in the game. Maifield, Grant, Ferraro, and Andrew Bergeron each drove in one run for Hoppers. Hoppers turned one double play in the game.

Dodosn provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Mammoths with three runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Sebastian Trinidad led Mammoths with three hits in five at bats from the leadoff position. Mammoths had a strong eye at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Jose Cedeno and Tommy Stevenson led the team with two walks each. Mammoths were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Stevenson had the most chances in the field with eight.
