August 1st, 2025
UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (11-18) put together a complete team effort on Thursday night, shutting out the Utica Unicorns (15-14), 8-0, at Jimmy John’s Field.
The Beavers’ offense erupted early, plating four runs in the second inning. Nate Mensik’s bases-loaded walk brought home the first run, followed by DJ Butler’s two-RBI single. A wild pitch later in the frame allowed another run to score, giving the Beavers an early 4-0 lead.
Birmingham Bloomfield struck again in the fifth when Butler tripled and Jackson Romero doubled him home. Two batters later, Ryan Maka launched a two-run homer to extend the lead to 7-0. Pablo Ruiz added an insurance run in the eighth after leading off with a double and later scoring on Ben Wilcoxson’s groundout.
The Beavers’ pitching staff combined for a dominant performance, holding the Unicorns to just two hits. Starter Jake Armstrong tossed 2.2 hitless innings, while Jordan Wimpelberg (1-1) earned the win with 2.1 perfect frames, striking out two. Dyson Johnson closed the door with two scoreless innings to secure the shutout.
Meanwhile, the Unicorns’ offense never found its rhythm, stranding 11 runners on base and managing just two singles, one each from Jared Weber and Ethan Krizen.
