Mammoths Defeat Beavers 5–1 Behind Garcia’s Strong Start and Late Offense
July 25th, 2025
UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (12-17) picked up a key win Friday night at Jimmy John’s Field, defeating the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (10-17), 5–1, in front of an energetic crowd. The victory was powered by a dominant start from right-hander Guillermo Garcia Jr. and a steady offensive effort from the Mammoths lineup.
The Beavers got on the board first in the top of the opening frame. Jackson Romero and Matt Piotrowski reached base to start the game, and a sacrifice fly by Nate Mensik gave Birmingham Bloomfield a quick 1-0 lead.
The Mammoths responded in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs—both unearned—after catcher’s interference extended the inning. RBI hits from Ryne Guida and Sebastian Trinidad gave Westside a 2–1 advantage, and the Mammoths never looked back.
Garcia Jr. (2–0) was lights out on the mound, earning the win after going 5.0 innings with just two hits and one run allowed. He walked four and struck out seven, setting the tone for the Mammoths’ pitching staff. Brendan Beaver tossed two shutout innings in relief, and Ryan DuSang struck out the side in the ninth to secure the win.
Westside added a run in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Tommy Stevenson and tacked on two more in the seventh with RBI singles from Guida and Jose Cedeno.
Beavers starter Choyce Diffey (4–3) was charged with the loss despite striking out nine batters over 4.2 innings. He allowed five hits, three runs (two earned), and issued four walks.
With the win, the Mammoths move to 12–17 on the season, while the Beavers drop to 10–17.
