Beavers Win in Front of Sold Out Crowd Over Unicorns, 5-1

UTICA, Mich. – Jacob Pennington earned the pitching win for the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (4-16), as they would break their four-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Utica Unicorns (12-9) on the Independence Day in front of a sold out crowd at Jimmy John’s Field.
The Unicorns started the scoring early. Jared Weber launched a ball into left center field, before bouncing over the wall for a ground-rule double, which scored Andre Demetral and earn Weber his 18th RBI of the season.
The Beavers would finally find some offense in the fourth inning, loading the bases before a Blake Bean RBI single would tie the game. Pablo Ruiz hit his second home run of the season in the fifth inning, giving the Beavers their first lead.
The Beavers would again find themselves with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth. Joe Burke earned an RBI on a sac fly, followed by a Ben Wilcoxson RBI single to give the Beavers a 4-1 lead. Bean had an impressive day at the plate, hitting 3-for-5 with three singles, and two RBIs.
