Woolly Mammoths Defeat Unicorns 9-5 to Win Third Straight

UTICA, Mich. – Jake Pulcheon went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Jake Barbee finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored to lead the Westside Woolly Mammoths (6-11) over the Utica Unicorns (12-7), 9-5, on Wednesday at Jimmy John’s Field.
Reigning USPBL Player of the Week Alec Craig went 2-for-3 with two walks and one RBI. Right-handed pitcher Ben Mckendall picked up his first win of the season, working 5.0 innings, scattering three hits, three runs and two earned runs. RHP Thomas Muratore and Josh Hejka combined to throw 2.2 scoreless innings to close out the game for the Mammoths.
Leading the Unicorns offensively was shortstop Adrian Guzman, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a double.
The Mammoths’ Barbee extended his streak to 15 games of reaching base safely. Batting leader Sonny Cortez went 1-for-4 and drove in a team-best three RBIs.
The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers will take on the Eastside Diamond Hoppers on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Thirsty Thursday will feature $2 Bud and Bud Light, $5 craft beer specials in the Zetouna Craft Beer Garden, and Jimmy Buffett Night with Caribbean Blue Band.
