May 20th, 2025
ROCHESTER, Mich. – May 20, 2025 – The United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL powered by UWM) and the Westside Woolly Mammoths proudly announce that right-handed pitcher Karter Fitzpatrick has been signed by Major League Baseball’s Colorado Rockies Organization, making him the 53rd player to be signed out of the USPBL.
Fitzpatrick, a Monroe, Michigan native and Wayne State University alumnus, delivered an impressive performance during the 2024 USPBL season after completing his senior year at Wayne State. Over five appearances with the USPBL in 2024, he achieved a 3-1 record with a 2.86 ERA, striking out 33 batters over 28.1 innings pitched. His standout game occurred on August 22, 2024, when he tied a USPBL record by striking out 13 batters over eight shutout innings, allowing just two hits in a 3-0 victory over the Eastside Diamond Hoppers. With the kickoff of the USPBL’s 2025 season at Jimmy John’s Field this past weekend, Fitzpatrick started Game Two of the Mammoths double header against the Hoppers.
At Wayne State, Fitzpatrick became the program’s all-time leader in wins (31) and games started (46), ranking second in innings pitched (293.0). He also threw the first perfect game in school history on May 4, 2024, against Purdue Northwest. His accolades include the 2023 GLIAC Pitcher of the Year and selections to multiple All-American and All-Region teams.
Off the field, Fitzpatrick has demonstrated a strong commitment to academics and community service. Maintaining a 3.72 GPA as a civil engineering major, he was a two-time recipient of the GLIAC Commissioner’s Award for academic and athletic excellence. His community involvement includes over 130 hours of service, participation in cancer fundraising initiatives, and mentorship programs for youth.
“We’re incredibly proud of Karter’s achievements both on and off the field,” said Taylor Grzelakowski, Manager of the Westside Woolly Mammoths. “His dedication, talent, and character have set a high standard, and we’re excited to see him take this next step in his professional career.”
Fitzpatrick will be reporting to the Arizona Complex League later this week.
Fitzpatrick’s signing marks another success story for the USPBL, which continues to provide a platform for players to develop and advance to Major League organizations.
