Utica, MI — May 18, 2025 — The Utica Unicorns (1-1) erupted for nine runs in the first three innings and never looked back as they defeated the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (1-1), 12–3, on Sunday at Jimmy John’s Field.

The Unicorns took immediate control in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on three hits, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch to plate three runs. Ethan Krizen‘s two-run homer in the third highlighted a five-run frame that broke the game wide open. Ryan Enos later added a three-run double to push the lead to 9–0.

The Beavers were held scoreless through three innings before Jorge Carrero put them on the board with a solo home run in the fourth. Carrero finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Nate Mensik added a solo shot in the seventh, and later that inning, Carrero drove in another run with a double to bring the score to 9–3. But the Unicorns responded swiftly with a three-run seventh inning, aided by two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a two-run double from Andrew Valdez.

Bruce Yamamoto (1–0) earned the win in relief, tossing two innings and allowing one run. Choyce Diffey (0–1) took the loss for the Beavers, surrendering four runs over two innings.

The Unicorns’ offense tallied 11 hits and drew nine walks. Sam Buduris scored three times, and Jude Drzemiecki reached base four times with two hits and two walks. Every Unicorns starter reached base at least once.
