This Week in the USPBL – Episode 3

May 28th, 2019

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The United Shore Professional Baseball League games witnessed explosive offenses over Memorial Day weekend that produced large crowds and warmer weather at Jimmy John’s Field in historic downtown Utica. The Utica Unicorns have won six of their first eight games and the Eastside Diamond Hoppers won a pair of games to highlight This Week in the USPBL. The weekly show produces features from each game and an inside look at the fan experience.

Top pitching prospects Donald Goodson, Luis Contreras and Matt Dallas were all sensational last week. Goodson blanked the Beavers with 7.0 scoreless innings on Friday night, Contreras took a no-hitter into the sixth inning against the first-place Unicorns on Saturday night, and Dallas touched 96 miles per hour in his relief appearance on Memorial Day, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings. Contreras leads the USPBL with 27 strikeouts in 16.0 innings pitched, while Dallas leads the way with a microscopic .087 earned run average.

The Woolly Mammoths’ Sonny Cortez earned co-player of the week accolades with a .571 batting average this past week, and now is hitting a league-best .433, along with Warren, Mich., native Pat Adams from the Diamond Hoppers. Birmingham Bloomfield’s Adam Gauthier leads the league with eight runs batted in.
