The USPBL & Its Corporate Partners Donate Care Bags to Local Health Care Workers
April 22nd, 2020
The United Shore Professional Baseball League announced today that, with the help of its corporate partners, it is donating Care Bags to local healthcare workers to show appreciation for the incredible work and sacrifice of local doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals during the coronavirus crisis. The USPBL will be delivering the Care Bags to five area hospitals: Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens, Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital in Rochester, Beaumont Hospital in Troy, and DMC Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit.
The USPBL Care Bags will include items such as:
• Jimmy John’s cards for free sandwiches
• Water donated by Pepsi and CGC Water
• Chips donated by Frito-Lay
• Custom playing cards donated by Coppola Wines
• Gift cards donated by Dunkin’ Donuts, Chicken Shack, Smithfield Foods, Zap Zone, Dave & Busters, Sudz on Mound, Tide Dry Cleaning, and Lucido Jewelry
• Free oil changes donated by Kozak’s Mr. Muffler
• Certificates for 4 free tickets to a future USPBL baseball game at Jimmy John’s Field
In addition to the Care Bags, each of the five area hospitals also will receive an additional 1,100 cards for free sandwiches from Jimmy John’s. Local Jimmy John’s Franchisee Jason Turner donated 6,000 free sandwich cards for this program. “We are thankful to be able to show our appreciation to our local healthcare workers who are going through so much to support all of us at this time,” said Mr. Turner.
USPBL Chief Executive Officer Andy Appleby said, “the USPBL and Jimmy John’s Field have been supported tremendously by our local hospital systems and this is just a small way that we can show our support in return. We thank all of our corporate partners who joined with us in putting together items for these Care Bags, with special thanks to Jason Turner and Jimmy John’s for donating the 6,000 sandwiches for this cause.”
The USPBL baseball season, which originally was scheduled to begin at Jimmy John’s Field on May 8, 2020, has been postponed due to the coronavirus crisis. The new target start date is Friday, May 29, 2020, as the league continues to monitor developments and guidelines set forth by the state and federal government. This year will be the fifth season of USPBL baseball at Jimmy John’s Field.
