Mammoths Hold Off Hoppers Comeback Attempt in 10-6 Victory

UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (2-0) used a big first inning and timely hitting to defeat the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (0-2), 10-6, on Sunday afternoon at UWM Field.
The Mammoths jumped out early with six runs in the opening inning before adding three more in the third to build a commanding lead. Dalton Pearson provided the biggest swing of the day with a three-run home run, while Caleb Marmo and Corbin Shaw each collected two hits in the win.
The Hoppers battled back in the fifth inning behind David Kedrow, who delivered the offensive highlight of the game with a three-run home run and finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Jarrett Chapman added an RBI hit, while Josh Burke and Kevon Jackson each scored during the rally.
On the mound, Jacob Mead provided solid relief for the Hoppers, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout. The Mammoths bullpen held off the comeback attempt, combining for eight strikeouts over the final four innings.
The Mammoths finished with 10 runs on 10 hits, while the Hoppers recorded six runs on five hits in the loss.
