Hoppers Work Extra to Defeat Mammoths, 9-5 (10)

UTICA, Mich. – Shortstop Kevin Whatley doubled to right-center field with two outs in the 10th inning that led to a five-run, two-out rally as the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (4-3) defeated the Westside Woolly Mammoths (2-5), 9-5, in extra innings at Jimmy John’s Field on Sunday.

Whatley finished the game 3-for-5, with two runs scored, one RBI and a double. Zackary Gray went 3-for-5 and right-handed pitcher Colby Nealy tossed 4.0 scoreless innings after a rain delay.

RHP Noah Gotsis made the start for the Hoppers, tossing 3.0 innings, allowing one run and struck out two before the heavy rains came to suspend play. Pat Adams and Wesley Jones each drove in two runs to help the Diamond Hoppers win their second straight game.

The Woolly Mammoths’ Ethan Wiskur had his second straight two hit game, going 2-for-4. RHP Thomas Muratore threw 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and left the game with the Mammoths leading 1-0 before the rain delayed the game.


The Woolly Mammoths will take on the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers on Monday to celebrate Memorial Day. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m., and gates will open at Noon. Veterans, active and retired Military are FREE admission, and family members receive $2 off any grandstand ticket.
