UTICA, Mich.Joe Burke singled in sudden death play, scoring Alex Pup, to give the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (7-7) a 6-5 win over the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (6-9) on Friday in front of a lively crowd at Jimmy John’s Field.

Burke had a night, going 4-for-6, with two RBIs and one run scored. Alex Pup hit a home run in, following a home run in last night’s game. Bryant Shellenbarger notched two RBIs of his own.

There were four Hoppers that had two or more runs, Pup, Luis Acevedo, Burke, and Joe Kalafut.

The Beavers came back in the seventh innings, scoring four runs.

RHP Jesse Galindo started on the mound for Birmingham, tossing 5.0 innings, scattering eight hits and striking out seven batters.

The sudden death format is as follows: a coin toss will take place at home plate between the managers of both teams. The home team will call their selection as the umpire tosses the coin. The winner of the coin toss will select whether they will take the field defensively or bat in the inning. The team at bat will remain the same batting order as the previous inning with the hitter making the last out placed at first base. If the team scores a run, they win. If they are held scoreless, the victory goes to the team on defense.
