Unicorns Take Down Hoppers 9-1
Utica, Mich. – Kevin Lambert hit a two-run home run and Malek Bolin batted in three runs to help give the Utica Unicorns (25-13) a 9-1 win over the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (16-22) on Sunday afternoon at Jimmy John’s Field.
Lambert’s performance earned him Player of the Game as he went 2-for-4, batted in three runs, and scored one run. Unicorns starting pitcher Jake Fiorito struck out two batters and allowed one run in 2.0 innings of work. Reliever Keon Taylor pitched 1.0 inning, striking out three out of the four batters faced.
Second baseman Alex Pup scored the only run for the Hoppers. Designated hitter Nick Kreutzer and catcher Whit Hughes each had one hit. Harry Orth started on the mound, tossing 6.0 innings, scattering nine hits, and striking out two.
The Hoppers will be back in action to face off against the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers on Thursday night. It will be Italian-American Heritage Night at the ballpark.
